Chair: Diversity: How artists address contemporary issues and ideas

Professor Barbara Bolt

We live in an epoch where there is recognition that the resources of the world are finite and our instrumentalist use of things in the world is not sustainable. The world's very survival depends on our capacity to reassess our relation to each other, to the nonhuman and to the more-than-human in order to develop a different relation to the world. Does contemporary art have the capacity to open up and illuminate the ecological dimensions in life and provide way of thinking this relationship differently? Can art effect change? This panel draws together three artists who, each in their own way, take on the challenge to address the relation to the nonhuman and the more-than-human.
